The "Ladies" Whiskey Sour
You may have noticed we have been away for a while. Sometimes you loose yourself in the present moment and what is in front of you. I am sure you have heard, “The squeaky wheel gets the grease.” This is an American proverb used to convey the idea that the most noticeable (or loudest) problems are the ones most likely to get attention (Wikipedia).
In life, for better or worse, you shift quickly to next thing on the list, the loads of work responsibilities and kids, kids and more kids (in our case). We are trying to re-balance and restructure ourselves as women who are passionate about our families, work and desires. Equilibrium happens with time and testing. By leaning into patience we understand that balance and beauty will be achieved. Similarly, in gardening you have years where your harvest is limited, you have less fruit. The human experience reflects the same. You have periods where you are less productive and in these times we need to reflect and not judge.
For Jen and I, we need to manage our day to day life in order accomplish our goals. By being intentional with our time, we can do just that. We want to build connections with our people and invite you, our readers to join us in our journey. Read, reflect and enjoy our blog, Joy Domestique! Right now, Less is More - we want to give our best to provide a wonderful experience when you visit us. Cheers!
This winter, I, Heather was finding myself going to the same drink over and over. I kept making a hot toddy with Brown Sugar Bourbon (from Heritage Distilling Co.) and fresh lemon juice. Now that winter has ended, I need a cold version of my latest fave because sunny days are ahead. I wanted something that was simple and flavorful - not overpowered by sugar. This is a unique whiskey sour that features our Pacific Northwest Style. So we are calling all the "Ladies" to get your cocktail on with your girlfriends or your beau. Add an extra ounce of bourbon for that stiff drink your man desires. Giggle, Giggle!
We appreciate a cocktail that begins with freshly squeezed juice. We bought these lemons from Trader Joe's and they had an amazing citrus punch.
This hand held citrus press is simply used to squeeze your lemons and limes. It makes juice production a snap.
After you have your juice prepped, you need to use a couple of your fresh lemons to make lemon curls. You can do this technique with a zester.
We both have an OXO Good Grips Lemon Zester. It performs well and it is the tool you need for this task.
BSB (as we call it in the Northwest) is a perfect match with the fresh lemon juice. This is great for the Hot Toddy in the winter too.
Make sure you get your measurements right; balance is key.
Don't forget a pinch of cinnamon too!
Now that all your ingredients are over ice, shake it. Jen just bought this Mason Jar Shaker, it comes with a stainless steel strainer and lid. It does the job.
Large cocktail ice cubes create the perfect chill. They will keep your drink cool without melting quickly, thus your cocktail won't become diluted.
Top that beauty off with a lemon curl and you have The "Ladies" Whiskey Sour!
